Loafers: The Unisex Fashion Occurrence

8/28/2016

Loafers are not for everyone. My sister-in-law made that very clear in the most hilarious comment after I posted a few pix via Instagram that of course went on my Facebook wall (I am always trying to sell someone something). However, through liquidation purchases, we were able to acquire a few pairs. They are actually quite popular. Fashion to me is about nonverbal communication. You want people to hear/ know/ understand something about you without having to use words. Studies by the New York Times (and various communication classes I took) state that at least 65% of communication is nonverbal. As a designer, I have come to realize part of that communication comes from how we dress. Whether you are choosing to wear your hair a certain way, wear your makeup a certain way or not wear makeup at all… you are trying to say something. So I ordered the bale with the loafers because I thought why not? I have only ever owned one pair of loafers in my life since I love and live for heels and that pair happened to come from the same sister-in-law who complained about loafers. We are the same shoe size... I acquired these bad boys and have rocked them ever since. My childhood was made up of always stealing our mother's shoes (heels) and lipstick from her purse (dear siblings, cousins & best friends, if you dare release any photographic evidence of my early lipstick wearing years it's ON). Ahem. I digress.
However, after musing over certain topics with my team and assigning various topics to certain bloggers, I decided I would take on loafers. I can’t be a one-trick-pony as a designer. I mean, I was super excited when I got the call from Lawrence Adisa after he had been back to his home state of New York and said Ankara & Dashikis had hit all over the streets. He had finally seen live, what I had been sharing with him as a style & wardrobe consultant for his productions and red carpet premieres and he loved it! I had always wanted to dress him, and the rest of the cast and crew in pieces that showcased the independent fashion world (and in the process created jobs for the people who sell, make and get me the textiles to work with). So I can’t be closed off to styles when I (and many others) are trying to push for a whole other wave of red carpet & everyday awesomeness.

Ankara Fest LA

So in short, if I want to be able to cater to those clients too, I can’t live in a box while hoping to dress the world. So I took on a topic I wouldn’t normally have written about and thought… let me see if I can convince myself to break out of my little shell and while we were pinning away at the Noble Coffee & Tea on Logan street in Downtown Noblesville, I realized that yes, I would be willing to give these bad-boys more room in my shoe purchases for both personal and styling purposes. I saw the loafers with a bow and a part of me fainted in sheer bliss.Shoes of all types apparently make me very happy. I also apparently love bows (insert shocked face here) and so here I am, trying to convince you to give loafers a chance, in case you hadn’t before. Loafers look best with rolled up pants or with the skinny jeans/ pants. Loafers add that exotic vibe to a suit. They give off the vibe that you are a well-seasoned traveler and simply stopping by whatever city you are in for business or pleasure on your way to wherever else you have to go. Loafers can be dressed both up or down by all sexes and for ladies, they can be a comfortable relief to heels esp. for long work days. So why not? Right?

So do enjoy our slideshow that showcases our Ankara bags, shirts & shoes in LA being modeled by producer & actor, Lawrence Adisa and his gorgeous wife Camille, as well as loafers being rocked all the way from Africa to America. As always, thanks for making your way to our site and remember, in all your fashion adventures to try and SHOP SMALL BIZ. Your dollars begin to make a difference the moment you allow them to (where you shop matters).

Hair Styled: Flowers In Your Hair

Until sometime in September, it's still going to be considered summertime. This is the time when many of us have a love-hate relationship with the weather (or at least for me who lives in Arkansas where it can get quite hot, I do). I love the buzz of people walking the city streets and the smell of fresh cut grass but a lot of us hate to sweat. Especially, when we have long thick hair and for those of us that have short hair, we often look for cute styles that suit us. That's what this blog post is all about: Cutsie styles for the Back To School/ Quickly Approaching Fall Season look you may want tips for.

For 2016, I say bring out the flowers. Both short haired and long haired women with different hair textures can pull this look off. Whether you are putting your hair up in a bun and putting flowers around it or we opt for the flower halo that are popping up in stores across the US.

The great thing about these flower halos is that they can be worn in various ways which gives you options. You can wear them down on your forehead and then around your whole head or you can wear them slightly up in your bang area or even to the side. PS: Women of various backgrounds and from different cultures have been wearing flowers in their hair for centuries. So we've selected a bunch of shots from Pinterest to share with you and spark some creative ideas in you on how you can wear them. Do checkout the original pinners from our board: Hair & Women and see what other fun hair suggestions they are offering.

Now, another great thing about these flowery looks is that if you see something that you like but isn’t quite you, you can make your own (video tutorial coming soon from team LHO).

I’m also seeing more and more brides that are using flowers for more than just bouquets and centerpieces for their wedding day as well. Another thing I’m finding and appreciating is that in 2016 no one is looking for that perfect look because we are realizing there is no such thing as "perfect" and that that's great. So there is no one way to rock the boho flower look, in fact we encourage you to make it your own. How would you like the flowers to sit in your hair?. So don’t worry about having every piece in place because it doesn’t need to be. Get rid of that Snapchat filter with the fake flower headpiece and opt to be original with your very own!

Another reason I am loving these looks is they are not only popular but they can be quite romantic for a night out with your special someone.

Thanks for reading:

Hey there,
I'm Misty and I'm a certified Hair & Makeup Artist and one of the Resident Hair Blogger for LHO Creations.
How I connected with Love's Hangover: I received a social media message about a designer coming in from Indiana for the Wal-Mart Global Day Festivities at the Wal-Mart Headquarters who needed models, makeup and hairstylist as well as a place to make all that magic happen. I signed up and the rest is history. My personal e-mail is:

Personal Style Journal: Haley Maddox: MADDlife

The other morning I was running a little late to work (happens often). I had one specific pair of black pants in mind that I was just going to throw on really fast with the shirt I was already wearing. My floor, I would assume that quite a few women can relate, was absolutely covered in clothes.  The clothes on the floor were the outfits that didn't quite make the cut and were just thrown down for me to "pick up later" (ha). Why couldn't I find THE black pants that I wanted though? After ten minutes of searching, it dawned on me, that more than half of my clothes on the ground were black and that maybe that had something to do with me not finding what I was looking for. Thirty minutes later I was fully dressed and rushing to work.

We wanted to let you know of the fun selection we have in-store that you can preview as well as purchase right off of our facebook fanpage, before they get on our SHOP ONLINE page on Shoptiques.

Also enjoy a little shout out from Ky-enie. He's our latest celebrity to dress. He was on tour with Richie Spice on the East Coast and after one of our team members reached out to him, he decided he wanted to rock one of our (soon to be released) Adisa Collection T-Shirts. Ky-enie hails from Jamaica! He composed Rain, one of the tracks from the Shottas soundtrack. Ky-enie, like the Adisa Family & many other celebrities are standing up and choosing to support, shop & invest in Small Business Enterprises. Have you??
