The other morning I was running a little late to work (happens often). I had one specific pair of black pants in mind that I was just going to throw on really fast with the shirt I was already wearing. My floor, I would assume that quite a few women can relate, was absolutely covered in clothes.  The clothes on the floor were the outfits that didn't quite make the cut and were just thrown down for me to "pick up later" (ha). Why couldn't I find THE black pants that I wanted though? After ten minutes of searching, it dawned on me, that more than half of my clothes on the ground were black and that maybe that had something to do with me not finding what I was looking for. Thirty minutes later I was fully dressed and rushing to work.

So you could say I favor black and more neutral colors when it comes to my wardrobe. While I was at Love's Hangover plotting & planning this blog post last week, I mentioned how I had worn a yellow shirt the day before and found the brightness overwhelming and therefore chose darker shades to go with the it to cope with all of that brightness.
I feel like wearing black (and other neutral colors) is like setting up a blank canvas. You can add multiple accessories or pops of any other color since there isn't really a way to go wrong. Black, in particular, is also so versatile that it can create a professional/ formal look but can also be toned down for a casual look.
So you could imagine my excitement when Love's Hangover Creations, a boutique in Downtown Noblesville, IN, asked me to come check out some of their new black arrivals as well as some awesome black and white printed pieces! The mind behind the boutique is a wonderful lady named Emily. We connected via Instagram but we followed each other quite awhile ago after she came and spoke in one of my fashion classes at the Art Institute of Indianapolis.
As soon as I got to the boutique, we started playing a little dress up! It is located in the cutest little area of downtown Noblesville. The boutique is filled with items that can be worn everyday, formal garments, lifestyle products, bold accessories (I adore the accessories), shoes, and some antique trinkets they source from around the world! Here are the 3 looks we shot that day:

LOOK ONE:
Was a metallic black/silver tank with a cut-out black skirt
($14.99):

The tank had a studded embellishment trimmed along the bust. The lining of the skirt stopped a little before the outer layer so the cut-out detail could be seen easier. To break up the dark tone ($24.99), we added a bright printed clutch with mixed Ankara patterns to create the focal point (the bag sold that day via LHO's Instagram account).

LOOK TWO:

The second look was a tight fitting skirt
($17.99) with high slit. It was pulled up high on my waist so it was very flattering on my figure. We threw a shawl around a tank top for a more glamorous look. The shawl ($12.99) was originally just a scarf but knotting and styling does wonders! For jewelry, we accented with Kukui nut bracelets from Hawaii in black and silver Tibet skull cuff bangles ($8.99 & below for all the accessories worn for this look). This is a perfect example of how easy black can go formal!
LOOK THREE:

The third look was the most fun! We paired bold, black and white printed pants ($24.99) with a neutral jersey top ($14.99). This casual outfit is perfect for grabbing lunch with friends or doing a little shopping! It is super light and comfortable for the spring and summer seasons. To just make everything more interesting, we added a big bag with a totally different giraffe print that was handmade in the markets of East Africa ($29.99) & Indy made cuffs by Designer CaTina ($12.99).

For all you who are like me and love those darker tones, but still like adding a unique feel to it, I def. recommend stopping by more Small Biz boutiques like Love's Hangover Creations. You can follow their boutique via Shoptiques. There are accessories displayed on there but it is definitely worth the drive to actually visit the boutique in Downtown Noblesville esp. if you like that unique vibe or want to be one of the few who has a certain look! Their boutique is PERFECT for having unique one-offs. Also a lot of these pieces have been grabbed by now, however if you'd like to stay tuned on selections from the boutique that might not have made it to their Shoptiques store yet, do checkout their fanpage on facebook (you can SHOP directly on there too).
xoxo,
MADDlife
